Wheel bearing housing for the VW T3
for 2WD, 14" and 16" Syncro also with ABS and in different camber variants
And once again something new from us.....
We have addressed the issue of the old wheel bearing housings of the VW T3 that are wearing out and shrinking and are now manufacturing brand new housings.
The reason for the wear of the old housings is their age of around 30 years and the relatively soft grey cast iron used at the time. Over the years, this material has worked itself up and the inner bearing loses its fit in the housing. The result is excessive wheel bearing play, which is not caused by the bearing itself but by a loose fit in its housing. Installing new wheel bearings does not remedy the situation. The mutual cylindrical roller bearing is usually not affected by problems.
We ourselves have experienced this problem several times on both our customers' and our own vehicles. This is a particularly unpleasant situation on long-distance journeys, as in most cases the only way to get home is to centre punch the bearing seat and, if necessary, glue it in place.
We have now tackled this problem by manufacturing completely new housings, which we now produce here and sell after the pre-series.
We use high-quality tool steel as the material and machine it on modern CNC machines. Our tolerances are in the thousandths of a millimetre range. This enables us to offer fits that could not have been achieved in series production 30 years ago. The material we use is about four times stronger than the old grey cast iron. Together with the now optimised fits, this results in a durable and reliable fit of the bearings and it is possible to use the original parts in the new housing.
Our wheel bearing housings for the VW T3 can be used for both the rear and all-wheel drive versions. The housings are galvanised and black chromated. We supply the housings with pressed bearings (FAG, SKF) ready sealed and greased.
As a new addition to the programme, we have manufactured the housings in an HD version and improved the bearing technology so that we have been able to double the load capacity.
Since we have received many customer enquiries as to whether we can change the camber. We have taken this into account in our current production and offer the 14" version with the following degrees:
